The Racing Quattro Carbon boasts a 40mm rim height, as the ‘Quattro’ denomination suggests. Its Unidirectional full carbon construction ensures low weight and a ‘stealth’ aesthetic.
The Racing Quattro Carbon boasts a full UD carbon rim and 3k carbon braking surface, tipping the scales at a competitive 1,555g. Aluminium alloy hubs with an adjustable bearing system make for reliable performance in all conditions whilst Two-to-One spoke lacing on the rear wheel adds to the wheelset’s strength.
Many professional and amateur cyclists around the world now use wider tyres because they offer noticeable benefits in terms of handling and rolling resistance, so the Racing Quattro Carbon DB has a European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation (ETRTO) measurement of 17C (24mm external) and has been engineered to work optimally with tyres ranging in widths of 25mm to 50mm.
Where are the aerodynamic advantages, however?
When rim width more closely matches tyre width, the airflow around this system tends to be smoother than the ‘lightbulb’ shape of a wide tyre and narrow rim. And when it comes to lowering rolling resistance, if you can comfortably accommodate wider tyres then you can run lower tyre pressures, which is turn decreases the impact that friction has on forward motion.
